Outer quote mark Impressively plummy and chocolatey, the Merlot in this reads strongly, though it’s actually 2 percent less than in the 1991. The wine is full and still firm, with copious aromas and flavors of cedar and menthol, raisins and cocoa. Closes fairly long with dark tart-sweet fruit and nice, still slightly tight tannins. This will keep. Drink now through 2008; best after 2004. Inner quote mark (4/2002)
Grapes selected for the 1992 Artist Series came from the Lindholm and Montecello Vineyards, both located at an elevation of about 1,400 feet on the Mayacamas mountain range. The 1992 season was long and cool, and the grapes for this wine were harvested late in October. Lots were fermented separately in small French oak barrels for 30 months. Cabernet Franc and Merlot were then added in the final blend to soften and further enhance the wines. Henry Miller (better known for his novels) painted the clown shown on the 1992 label.
