The nose has a complex array of fine-ground eastern spices, strong cardamom, fine dark chocolate, ripe black cherry and plums. There's even some liquorice. It has a neatly composed and elegant feel on the palate; it really flows long, rippling with spicy flavors and a smooth, dense and creamy finish. Best from 2028 for a decade or more.  (10/2016)

Tasted from bottle, the 2012 Côte Rôtie is a rock star that’s hard to resist now, even though it won’t hit maturity for another decade. Olive, pepper, underbrush and sweet cassis-like aromas and flavors all flow from this medium to full-bodied, concentrated and textured 2012. Showing both the gamy, wild and perfumed style of Côte Rôtie, yet also fantastic purity, it has the approachable, rounded feel on the vintage and can be consumed anytime over the coming 15+ years. More forward and approachable than I remember (yet that’s the vintage), the 2012 Cote Rotie offers beautiful aromatics of peppered meats, blackcurrants, olive tapenade and bacon fat, as well as loads of violets and floral notes with air. Rich, nicely textured, supple and forward by this estate’s standards, it nevertheless will continue drinking beautifully for another 10-15 years.  (7/2017)

Deep ruby. Complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red and dark berries, incense, violet and cracked pepper, along with a vibrant mineral overtone. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering intense blackberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors that stretch out slowly with air. This concentrated yet lively Côte-Rôtie finishes with superb clarity and even tannins. (JR)  (2/2015)

100% Syrah, 24 months in oak, 20% new. Schist. Notably dark crimson. Intense but with the softness of Côte Rôtie scent overlaying it all. One of the most typically Côte Rôtie wines but with an intensity that is presumably down to the vintage. Very neat and appetising. Very fine, fresh and natural. 18.5/20 points.  (11/2013)
