Bright violet. Heady, smoke- and spice-tinged blueberry, cherry liqueur and violet aromas show excellent clarity and pick up olive and smoky bacon notes with aeration. Sweet and energetic on the palate, offering deeply concentrated black and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors plus a suggestion of fine-spice powder. The impressively long, sappy finish features bright mineral cut, an echo of juicy blue fruit and velvety tannins that sneak up slowly. (JR)  (4/2018)

Lionel Faury makes this cuvée for importer Kermit Lynch. He selects fruit from his oldest vines, planted between 1937 and 1976. The 2015 smells gorgeous, floral and ripe, with a floral lilt to the deep, dark-blue fruit. The tannins give it a meaty density without weighing the wine down; it lasts, generous yet elegant in its supple structure and savor. It’s approachable now, but better, perhaps, to tuck it away for another eight or ten years and drink the regular cuvée (also recommended here) now.  (2/2018)
