2016 Copain "SeaLift" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (750ml)15 0 0 0
Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Sea Lift Pinot Noir gives up intense black and red cherries scents with hints of mulberries, dried herbs, tilled black soil and truffles. The palate is medium-bodied with a great core of red berry and earthy layers in the mouth, supported by firm, grainy tannins and fantastic tension, finishing long. 250 cases produced. From the Ohlson Vineyard, the 2016 Pinot Noir Sealift has a perfumed raspberry, violet, red plums, and spring flower-laced bouquet. With medium-bodied, richness, a slightly deeper, richer style, bright acidity, and a clean, pure profile, it will benefit from short-term cellaring and should age gracefully. This cuvée comes all from the Ohlson Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast and was brought up in 18% new French oak.
I had a great tasting with winemaker Wells Gunthrie and these latest releases show elegant, vibrant profiles. These aren’t for those craving powerful, rich wines, and they shine for their purity of fruit, balanced, and singular personalities. JD (6/2018)
