2016 Michele Chiarlo Barbaresco Asili (750ml)15 2 0 18
From the beginning, Michele Chiarlo has directly managed or personally overseen every aspect in the productions of his wines. They are 100% family owned and run with top historical singles vineyards in Barolo, Barbaresco & Barbera.
The Asili Cru is a prestigious and historic site with excellent exposure. The calcareous clay soils, rich in microelements, give the wines great complexity with a refined and silky finish. Chiarlo owns three distinct plots on these slopes.
"Plenty of tar and plum character with full body, dense and chewy tannins and a long and powerful finish. Ripe fruit at the end. A wine for the future. Drink after 2021." 95 points - James Suckling (17 Apr, 2019)
"Underbrush, camphor and black-skinned fruit aromas lead the nose along with fragrant blue flowers. The structured, racy palate is focused, vibrant and youthfully austere, offering red cherry, crunchy cranberry, vanilla, truffle and a hint of game alongside firm acidity and fine-grained tannins. Drink 2026–2036." 95 points / Cellar Selection - Kerin O’Keefe (Wine Enthusiast, Sep 2020)
"This is the first Barbaresco we tasted in a series of various single-vineyard expressions. The 2016 Barbaresco Asili is perhaps the most elegant and nuanced of the bunch, with fruit coming from 25-year-old vines. It shows fine raspberry, forest floor and wild blueberry aromas with violets, licorice and crushed stone. The finish is silky and smooth." 93 points - Monica Larner (Wine Advocate, July 2020)
