2017 Guido Porro Vigna Gianetto Barolo (750ml)15 0 0 0
Guido is the fourth generation at an estate that has always been passed from father to son. The Porros continue to work just as their predecessors did. The only major change over the last few decades has been the decision to bottle at the estate instead of selling the wine. This is an “under the radar” winery with a stellar reputation.
Guido Porros vineyards are in the limestone-heavy soils of Serralunga d’Alba which are known for providing the most long-lived and full-bodied Barolo. Vigna Santa Caterina is a monopole in the Lazzarito Cru that gets a cooling breeze which brings out a delicacy and elegance in the wines (25-30+ year old vines). The Gianetto vineyard is a south-facing vineyard with younger vines (8+ years).
"An intoxicating wild strawberry scent is enhanced by rhubarb flavoured boiled sweets, cinnamon, and macerated violet. The palate is full of sucrosity, dense and extracted, with fierce, bony fine-grained tannins and bracing acidity. The savoury character dominates the finish along with the wild strawberry fruit. A sleek wine not without the power to age.Drinking Window 2021 - 2040" 96 points - Aldo Fiordelli (Tasted Blind, Decanter, Mar. 2021)
