2017 La Sibilla Falanghina Cruna de Lago (750ml)15 13 0 0
"Located near the Campanian coastline in the Campi Flegrei DOC, the Di Meo family has turned their small estate into one of the country’s best Falanghina and Piedirosso wine producers." - Ian D'Agata (Vinous)
Campi Flegrei is a very small area north of Naples, right on the coast of Campania. Here they grow indigenous grapes - Aglianico and Falanghina - of ungrafted vines growing on their sandy soils. At La Sibilla they grow Falanghina Flegrea that is unique to this area.
Cruna del Lago is a reserve bottling of La Sibilla's Falanghina - just the best fruit they have to offer with no changes in cellar or wood treatment - aged 6 months on the lees in stainless steel. Only 4,000 bottles made.
"Luminous medium-dark golden yellow. Aromas of jasmine, lemon verbena and diesel fuel display a Riesling-like quality, complemented by scents of green apple, pear and ginger. Then fresh and lively in the mouth, with outstanding gingery cut to the spicy fruit flavors. Lingers long and mineral, not to mention saline. An outstanding example of Falanghina Flegrea made on the Campanian coast, a totally different animal from Falanghina Beneventana wines made inland (or so it should be)." 94 points - Ian D'Agata (Vinous, September 2019)
