2018 Domaine Heitz Lochardet Saint Aubin "Travers de Chez Edouard" (750ml)15 4 0 0
Allen Meadows - Burghound
A fresher, cooler and markedly floral-suffused nose offers up additional notes of pear, citrus rind and soft matchstick whiffs that are trimmed in discreet wood nuances. The racy and well-detailed middle weight flavors exude a subtle minerality on the agreeably dry and reasonably complex finale.
The young Armand Heitz directs this small but growing domaine whose range of wines, both red and white, will continue to expand over the next few years; in fact the Mercurey and the Boucherottes are the latest additions. With respect to the 2018 vintage, Heitz noted that "it was the easiest vintage I have made to this point. Maturities were very good, and the fruit was spotless so there really wasn't much to worry about from those standpoints. We picked from the 27th of August and yields were good in both colors though a bit more generous in white. Potential alcohols ranged from 12.5 to 13.5% and most of the reds were vinified with 100% whole clusters and happily there were no problems with the fermentations. Overall, 2018 is a nice vintage that should please most people as there really isn't anything to dislike." Heitz noted that the 2018 whites were bottled in September 2019 after having been lightly fined and filtered. The level of free SO2 was around 35 ppm with 800 to 900 mg of CO2.
