2018 Pieropan Soave Classico La Rocca (750ml)15 0 0 0
The late Leonildo Pieropan almost single-handedly elevated Soave from a simple country jug wine into elegant and sophisticated table wine. He was the first to offer a single-vineyard Soave Classico. He believed in lower yields, riper fruit, later harvests after longer growing seasons and making wine from only the best grapes. Today, his sons Andrea and Dario carry on the family’s tradition of producing delicious wines with an innovative spirit. Both Calvarino and La Rocca are sustainably farmed estate vineyards and the source for these two excellent wines.
La Rocca vineyard is planted on mount Rocchetta near Verona in ancient calcareous soils. The terraces of La Rocca vineyard are very narrow and carefully laid-out on the hillside just below Soave’s medieval castle.
"Aromas of chamomile, dried pineapple, preserved lemon, toasted almond and beeswax. It’s medium-to full-bodied with tangy acidity. So concentrated, layered and phenolic. Keeps going. Yet, it remains agile and vivid. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold." 95 points - James Suckling (5 Feb, 2021)
"There’s a honeyed sweetness mixed with candied ginger and hints of sour melon that keeps you coming back to the 2018 Soave Classico La Rocca over and over again. It’s deeply textural and savory in character, with a silky, almost oily feel giving way to ripe apple with saline minerality that adds a bit of tactile grip. The finish goes on and on, buzzing with residual acids and spice. Very nice." 93 points - Eric Guido (Vinous, Feb. 2021)
