2018 Thierry Pillot Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru (750ml)
91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound
A discreet application of wood sets of ripe and fresh aromas of white orchard fruit, various floral nuances and a whiff of mineral reduction. There is excellent volume to the delicious middle weight flavors that brim with minerality on the bone-dry finish that flashes both sneaky good length and focused power. This is sufficiently tightly wound to require at least 5 years before it will be reasonably approachable.
Several years ago, Thierry Pillot began a very small négociant operation that consisted primarily of just one wine, the Bâtard-Montrachet. He has expanded that modest start slightly by adding three more wines in 2017 but then pared it back to just two more in 2018. Note that these wines are sold under the Thierry Pillot label. Pillot noted that he used no new wood for these 3 wines. (6/2020)
