To pay homage to the special friendship between Giuseppe and Domizio, the property which locally had been known as Cascina Casotto, was re-named after the pine tree and is now the Cantina del Pino.

Branching out from the legendary Produttori del Barbaresco Cooperative, Renato Vacca (the great grandson of Giuseppe Vacca) convinced his father, Adriano, to start their own label in 1997. In 2013 Franca (Renato’s wife) joined the winery. Unfortunately, Renato passed in 2020. Franca, a winemaker in her own right, along with Renato’s parents continues the traditions and dedication to the quality wines of Cantina del Pino, the historic winery on the Ovello Hill.

"Earthy, meaty aromas and flavors lead off, with submerged notes of cherry and berry fruit. A dense matrix of tannins leaves a drying feel as this winds down on the white pepper–infused aftertaste. Still raw and unevolved, this is nonetheless long. Best from 2030 through 2047. 450 cases made, 180 cases imported.” 97 - Bruce Sanderson, Senior Editor, The Wine Spectator (3/26)

"The 2021 Barbaresco Ovello pours a pale red/orange hue and opens with a quietly compelling aromatic profile. Notes of anise, cinnamon, currants, juniper, alpine herbs, crushed stones, and orange zest emerge with air. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied and beautifully composed, floating across the palate with refined structure and a long, lifted finish. This is Ovello at its most expressive and complete. Drink 2026-2042.” 96 - Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnick (4/26)

"This is the wine that best captures the spirit of Cantina del Pino. The 2021 Barbaresco Ovello draws its fruit from nearby the winery at 300 meters in elevation on limestone marl and silt. Aged in large oak casks for a long 24 months, it shows delicate fruit tones of cassis and dried cherry with blue flower and grilled herb. This mid-weight vintage delivers a higher alcohol content at 15%. Production is 5,400 bottles. Drink Date: 2026 - 2042.” 95 - Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate (6/25)

"Alluring aromas of charcuterie, violet and ripe forest berry mingle with a potpourri of dark spice on the stunning 2021 Ovello from Cantina del Pino. Full-bodied and savory, the palate is bold but also boasts a weightless concentration that envelops raspberry preserve, mature Marasca cherry, vanilla and mocha. Velvety tannins provide support while fresh acidity lifts the finish. Drink 2028–2035.” 95 - Kerin O’Keefe (5/25)
