2018 Thibaud Boudignon Savennières La Vigne Cendrée (750ml)
The smallest parcel of the domaine (0.5 hectares) in the commune of Savennières located on a small hillside of purple schist, granite and clay silt. Half is aged in 226 liter burgundy barrels and half in foudre, with no new wood, for 12 months. Shows both generosity and mineral tension.
The young Thibaud Boudignon wears two winemaking hats in the Loire. He is the winemaker at the sizable, twenty-seven hectare estate of Château Soucherie but, on the side, he farms about 3.5 hectares of his own vines in Anjou. His parcels lie right on the border of Savennières, with a small percentage of his vines in the AOC of Savennières. Definitely one of the most exciting figures in wine today. These are very special wines. His dry Chenin Blanc wines are some of the best you will ever come across.
