"I can't recommend these wines highly enough." - AG

"Luca Roagna continues to ratchet up the quality of his wines in a meaningful way. Probably the biggest change here in recent years has been the shortening of time in barrel for most of the wines from about five years in cask to around three and half. Upon release, the wines have more freshness, energy and nuance than they once had. Unfortunately, the market has also noticed and prices are now quite a bit higher than they were when I first started visiting many years ago...Readers who can find these wines should not hesitate, as they are positively stellar." - Antonio Galloni (Vinous)

The Vecchie Viti wines come from the oldest vines in the cru, 50 year old vines and above.

"Aromas of green olive, juniper and sage frame concentrated flavors of cherry, currant, strawberry and mineral in this red, all of it filling the sleek body, with terrific tension and a long aftertaste of kirsch, mineral and wild herbs. Shows superb balance and length. Best from 2023 through 2050. 204 cases made." 97 points — BS (Wine Spectator, Dec. 2020)

"The 2015 Barolo Pira Vecchie Viti needs a bit of time in the glass for an initial whiff of reduction to blow off. As it often is, the Pira Vecchie Viti is an exotic wine built on an intriguing mix of aromatic presence and understated structure. In 2015, the two Pira Barolos are not as different as they usually are. While the Vecchie Viti has terrific persistence, it also is a bit fleeting for this wine." 94 points -- Antonio Galloni (Vinous, Oct. 2020)
