2018 Pieropan Soave Classico Calvarino (750ml)15 0 0 0
The late Leonildo Pieropan almost single-handedly elevated Soave from a simple country jug wine into elegant and sophisticated table wine. He was the first to offer a single-vineyard Soave Classico. He believed in lower yields, riper fruit, later harvests after longer growing seasons and making wine from only the best grapes. Today, his sons Andrea and Dario carry on the family’s tradition of producing delicious wines with an innovative spirit. Both Calvarino and La Rocca are sustainably farmed estate vineyards and the source for these two excellent wines.
Their Calvarino vineyard is in the heart of the region on a series of steep slopes that offer abundant sunlight. Calvarino means “small ordeal” and refers to the challenge of working in such steep vineyards and traversing the tortuous path to reach the estate.
"Beautiful aromas of jasmine, dried apple, lemon zest, acacia honey, flint and sea salt. It’s medium-bodied with bright acidity. Focused and refined with a long, mineral finish. Excellent expression. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold." 94 points - James Suckling (5 Feb, 2021)
"A well-cut white, light- to medium-bodied and finely-knit, framing flavors of nectarine and guava fruit, grated ginger and cherry blossom. Lip-smacking acidity and a streak of rich, chalky minerality echoes on the finish. Drink now through 2026. 5,000 cases made, 550 cases imported." 92 points - AN (Wine Spectator, Web Only 2021)
