2018 Domaine du Pelican Arbois Trois Cepages (750ml)15 1 0 0
"This is a fabulous set of 2018s from Domaine du Pélican, Guillaume d'Angerville's Jura property. D'Angerville created his estate through the acquisition of three smaller estates starting in 2012 and culminating with Jacques Puffeney's vineyards in 2015 and then a smaller piece in 2017. All of these parcels have been farmed biodynamically, in line with d'Angerville's own concepts. At Domaine du Pélican d'Angerville favors shorter élevage than at Volnay, with minimal new oak and a preference for larger format oak. Two thousand eighteen marks the first release of a number of single-vineyard wines, and d'Angerville's first Pinot from Jura. These are special, artisan wines that are very much worth exploring." - Antonio Galloni (Vinous)
The Trois Cepage is a blend of 60% Pinot, 35% Trousseau and 5% Poulsard. The vineyards are all located in the village of Montigny-lès-Arsures, face west and sit at an elevation of 300–400 m. The soil is grey and black marl and rocks (scree). It is 50% aged in barrel, 50% in foudre.
"Light to mid crimson, a little darker than the Pinot Noir and even more tangy, if more severe in its tight freshness. Intensely bright and pure. It is a little more herbal and a little sweeter fruited, but the fruit is lifted and pure. Silky, a little spicy and with impressive intensity for a wine that at first seemed so delicate. Endless and fresh, utterly mouth-watering." 18/20- Julia Harding MW (jancisrobinson.com, Feb. 2020)
"The 2018 Arbois Trois Cepages is a brilliant introduction to Guillaume D’Angerville’s Jura reds. Bright and punchy, the Trois Cepages offers superb fruit intensity in the mid-weight, lifted style that is typical of these wines. The warm growing season gives this blend of Pinot Noir, Trousseau and Poulsard an extra kick of radiance that works so well." 92 points - Antonio Galloni (Vinous, September 2020)
