2017 Guigal Cote Rotie Chateau d'Ampuis (750ml)15 0 0 4
This reference point estate was started in 1946 by Etienne Guigal and has been one of the world’s greatest wine estates for over seven decades now. Today, it’s Etienne’s son, Marcel Guigal, and his son Philippe, who continue to keep Domaine Guigal at the leading edge of the appellation. Jacques Desvernois, who was previously at Paul Jaboulet Aîné is now the Technical Director/ Winemaker.
Château d'Ampuis is produced from seven of the most exceptional plots of the domain. It was a historic property acquired by Guigal and whose oldest sections date to the 11th century. The Château d’Ampuis has been the symbol of the town of Ampuis and the world-renowned Côte-Rôtie vineyard area for ten centuries. The Cote Rotie d'Ampuis is made up of Syrah 93% and Viognier 7%.
"I loved the 2017 Côte Rôtie Château D'Ampuis. It’s a ripe, expressive barrel sample overflowing with notions of black raspberries, cassis, vanilla bean, and incense. Medium to full-bodied, rounded, and silky, it has lots of ripe tannins as well as stunning balance. It’s in the same ballpark as the 2016 yet shows the warmer, sunny nature of the vintage." 96-99 points - Jeb Dunnuck (Dec. 2019)
"The 2017 Cote Rotie Chateau d'Ampuis is a big, rich wine. It's full-bodied, rich and velvety, with vanilla accents atop mixed berries. A bit jammy and exuberant right now, it'll get another year or so in barrel, which should give it more focus and delineation." 93-95 points -Joe Czerwinski (Wine Advocate, Dec. 2019)
