Thierry Pillot's 1.2ha parcel sits next to Les Caillerets, making a tag-team of outstanding white wine terroirs. Focussed, nuanced and poised, as the domaine's wines invariably are, this is especially praiseworthy in a vintage when Chassagne didn't always deliver. Subtle, chalky and rigorous, it's a wine that engages the mind as well as the palate. (TA) (10/2018)

A vague whiff of exotic fruit is present on the slightly riper aromas of pear and apple compote, white flower and a hint of lychee. There is better richness and volume to the attractively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess sappy mouthfeel, all wrapped in an agreeably dry, clean and sneaky long finish. (6/2020)

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean unfurls to reveal hints of citrus oil and crisp green apple, complemented by notions of almond paste and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied, chalky and layered, this is a mineral, succulent Clos Saint-Jean that should show well young. (WK) (2/2020)

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Clos St Jean 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet with orange pith, mango and light petrolly scents (similar to those I discerned on the Les Mazures). The palate is well balanced with a sapid opening. Slightly honeyed in texture, this is definitely a spicy Chassagne with ginger and lemongrass lining the persistent finish. This has the upper hand over the Les Mazures. (NM) (1/2020)
